Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is an evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral Counseling strategy designed to assist individuals in the enhancement of self-image and to facilitate the development of higher stages of moral reasoning. MRT is aimed at decreasing the likelihood of someone returning to the use and abuse of drugs and alcohol.

in the criminal justice system with substance use disorders to focus on the moral aspects of the disease of addiction and the social consequences that may be associated with using drugs or alcohol. Who is MRT for? MRT was designed to assist males and females, veterans, trauma survivors, and individuals involved in the criminal justice system to lower recidivism rates. MRT looks at treating the whole person morally, socially, and behaviorally. Addressing the individual holistically strongly reduces the chance for relapse.

MRT is facilitated by a trained facilitator. The facilitator allows the group to focus on their problems and confront them head-on. The group will hold each member accountable for their actions. All group members must maintain their own workbook and never work ahead without permission. The group is held weekly and consists of 12 MRT steps. Individuals will not complete the class until they successfully complete each step. By the completion of the class, the individual will have a master’s goal plan for future success.
